Summer Fund Grants Distributed 

Andover Townsman - July 3, 2008                                                                                                                     The Essex County Community Foundation has announced the distribution of the Greater Lawrence Summer Fund grants totaling $250,000. The Greater Lawrence Summer Fund grants support summer programs for inner-city youth from the Greater Lawrence communities of Andover, Lawrence, Methuen and North Andover. This year more than 10,000 disadvantaged school-age children will benefit from the summer programs. The GLSF was developed in part to respond to community needs for quality summer programs for school-age youth in Greater Lawrence. Through the funded programs, young people have the opportunity for skill development, personal growth and exposure to new experiences. Forty-nine donors including foundations, banks, local businesses and individuals contributed to the 2008 fund. Grant recipients Include: Asian Center of Merrimack Valley, Essex Art Center, Groundwork Lawrence, Methuen Arlington Neighborhood Inc., North Andover Historical Society, St. Ann's Home and Windrush Farms.

Marblehead schools get $10,114 from ECCF

MARBLEHEAD -The Marblehead Public Schools received $10,114 of $110,773 in Hardscrabble Education Fund grants recently distributed by the Essex County Community Foundation. The Hardscrabble Education Fund supports academic achievement in the fields of mathematics, science and English for the public school districts of Beverly, Lynn, Marblehead, Nahant, Salem and Swampscott. Scholarship fund started in memory of Corinne (Morris) Johnson

The Corinne (Morris) Johnson Scholarship Fund has been established in memory of Corinne Johnson of Andover. The Andover resident was the first female general manager at the General Electric aircraft engine plant in Lynn. Read more

Essex County Community Foundation awards grants to nonprofits

Andover, MA - Several local nonprofits recently received grants to help them with their work. The Essex County Community Foundation awarded the grants to help agencies with marketing plans, fundraising efforts, implementing a strategic plan and strengthening governance and fiscal management skills. The following agencies received grants: Andover Chamber Music Series, $3,000; Bread & Roses Housing, Lawrence, $4,500; North Andover Historical Society, $2,500. The Essex County Foundation was established in 1999 to facilitate collaboration among donors and nonprofit organizations.
