The Essex County Community Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees that establishes the policies & procedures and oversees general management of The Foundation and the funds entrusted in its care.

Rosalin Acosta
TD Bank


Rosalin’s 24 years in banking encompasses leadership roles spanning multiple business lines such as commercial lending, cash management, government banking and retail banking. Rosalin joined TD Bank as Wealth Market Leader for New England in November 2009. Her team specializes in providing comprehensive financial solutions to high net worth individuals and delivering these solutions with the highest standard of fiduciary care, integrity and excellence. Prior to joining TD, Rosalin served as Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Private Wealth Management for Sovereign Bank. In addition to her banking experience, Ms. Acosta currently serves on the Board of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Board of Overseers at Children’s Hospital Boston, Co-Founder & Co-Chair of the Latino Executive Council at Children’s Hospital Boston, the North Shore Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Advisors for the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA), the Board of Trustees for Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport and the Board of Directors for the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center. Rosalin was born in Cuba and earned her BA from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Rosalin lives in Amesbury, MA with her five children.

John Brooke
Brooke Private Equity Associates

John Brooke is Managing Director of Brooke Private Equity Associates in Boston. John’s career in investments began at the opening of Advent International, in sourcing and analytics, growth equity and leveraged buyouts, covering multiple industry sectors and specializing in Asia. His work in fund raising, fund oversight and management then helped establish the Tucker Anthony Private Equity Group (Park Street Capital) as a leading private equity fund-of-funds management serving institutions and families. John established BPEA in 2003, and its predecessor fund, the Brooke Family Limited Partnership, in 1995. He is responsible for the overall management of the firm. John is a Trustee of Middlesex School and a member of ECCF’s Investment Committee. John resides in Hamilton.

David Dearborn
Community Volunteer

David practiced law briefly with Choate, Hall & Stewart in Boston, spent a decade as a Trust Officer at State Street Bank & Trust Co. in Boston. and then worked as a Development Officer for the Faculty of Arts & Sciences at Harvard University until he retired. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Adirondack Landowners Association and a member of the Essex County Estate Planning Council, and he has been Class Secretary for his Harvard College class since 1980. David received his A.B. from Harvard, served as an officer in the U.S. Army Air Defense Command, and earned his L.L.B. from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a resident of Beverly. David resides in Beverly with his wife, Mary.

Anne Dodge
Community Volunteer


Anne brings over 30 years of nonprofit board work to her role at ECCF. Following a 3 year stint as an investment officer and trader of US Government securities with the Bank of Boston, Anne began her long and committed involvement with the leadership and governance of educational and religious institutions in our region. She has served as a Trustee of the North Shore Nursery School, Brookwood School, Proctor Academy and Middlesex School and served as an advisor to the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Vermont. Most recently, Anne has been involved with St. John’s Episcopal Church in Beverly Farms where she has served on the vestry and as warden and now as a member of an Advisory Committee to the Rt. Rev M. Thomas Shaw, Episcopal Diocesan Bishop of MA. After earning an A.A. from Colby Sawyer College, Anne completed a B.A. in English at Williams College. She lives with her husband, in Manchester, MA.

Matthew P. Doring
Hinckley, Allen & Snyder LLP


Matthew, a Partner at Hinckley, Allen & Snyder LLP specializes in business law, tax-exempt finance and corporate governance. Matt graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1994 with a BA in American Studies and from Notre Dame Law School with a Juris Doctorate in 1997. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, Boston Bar Association, National Association of Bond Lawyers and Real Estate Bar Association. Matt has a strong interest in youth and community, serving as Trustee for the Ipswich YMCA and the Town of Newton and is a youth basketball coach. Matt lives in Rowley.

Dame Amelia Chilcott Fawcett DBE
Chairman of Guardian Media Group and State Street Corporation


Ms Fawcett is the Chairman of Guardian Media Group plc in London and a Non-Executive Director of State Street Corporation in Boston, Massachusetts. Until June 2010 she was also Chairman of Pensions First LLP, a financial services and systems solutions business, based in London. Ms Fawcett started her career at the law firm of Sullivan and Cromwell and joined Morgan Stanley in 1987 where she was appointed Vice President in 1990, an Executive Director in 1992 and Managing Director and the Chief Administrative Officer for the Firm’s European operations in 1996. In 2002, as Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer, she was a member of the European Management Committee and the Boards of Directors of the Firm’s major European operating companies. Ms Fawcett is Deputy Chairman of the National Portrait Gallery, a Governor of the London Business School, and until recently, a member of the Court of the Bank of England. She is also a Commissioner of the US-UK Fulbright Commission. Ms Fawcett, a British and American citizen, was born in Boston, Massachusetts, USA in 1956. She has a degree in History from Wellesley (1978) and a law degree from the University of Virginia (1983). She was admitted to the New York Bar in 1984 and currently resides in Manchester. 

Joseph Grimaldi
Mullen

Joe Grimaldi has been a key figure in defining, shaping, and building Mullen Advertising for over 28 years. During his tenure, the agency has grown from 14 people and $7.5 million billings to an $900 million agency with over 600 people in four offices. The youngest of four, Joe is an Italian immigrant who came to America at the age of five. He grew up in Queens, New York, having to fend his own way through most of his adolescence. He started his career in advertising over 30 years ago at Benton & Bowles in New York City and later moved on to Bates Advertising in NY, after a two year stint as a professional musician and subsequent completion of his college education at the Bernard Baruch College of Business, the City University of NY. He moved to Boston in 1981 when he was recruited by Hill Holliday, and joined Mullen as partner and director of client services in late 1982. He serves on the Board of Boston College’s Carroll School of Management, The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, The Massachusetts Innovation and Technology Exchange (MITX), Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, Boston Green Ribbon Commission (led by the Barr Foundation), Junior Achievement of Northern New England, The Ad Club of Boston (past chair), Brookwood School, and the Samaritans, among others. Joe is a resident of Manchester.

Allan Huntley
Community Volunteer

Allan Huntley has focused his career on founding and developing a number of businesses. He is an accomplished executive in software development and consulting services, real estate, and corporate travel, most recently as CEO of Abacus Travel in Peabody. He has been on the board of the Arthritis Foundation of Massachusetts (Development and Planned Giving Committees), volunteers with a number of nonprofits, and is Trustee and Development Chair at HAWC in Salem. He has helped ECCF prepare its “Back Office” agenda and serves as Treasurer of The Foundation. Allen lives in Middleton.

Patricia Foley Karl
Lawrence Family Development Charter School

Patricia Karl is a Co-Founder and Retired as Superintendent of the Lawrence Family Development Charter School. Currently she Coordinates the Teacher-Mentor Program at the school and co-chairs the PFK Scholarship Fund, an endowment fund at ECCF for LFDCS Graduates. Patricia has significant volunteer and community affiliations, serving as Trustee of the C. Pringle Charitable Foundation and as a member of the Merrimack Valley General Fund committee. She has also served on the boards of Mary Immaculate Health Care, Covenant Health Systems, Adelante Youth Center and the YWCA. Patricia is a Lawrence native and graduate of St. Mary High School and UMass Lowell with a BS in Elementary Education and a M.Ed. in Education Administration. She is married to Attorney Russell Karl and has three adult children and five grandchildren.

Patricia Meservey
Salem State University

Patricia Maguire Meservey is president of Salem State University, one of the largest state universities in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The university enrolls over 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students representing 27 states and 57 nations. With an annual operating budget of over $130 million and an aggressive expansion plan, Salem State serves as an important resource for the region’s business, municipal, and non-profit communities. Pat holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Boston College, an MS in parent-child health nursing and a BS in nursing, both from Boston University. She also served as executive director of the Center for Community Health Education, Research & Service, and the national director of the Community Partnerships in Graduate Medical and Nursing Education Initiative, both of which were funded by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. Patricia is a resident of Salem.

Juliet Nagle
Community Volunteer

Juliet was a Director and a teacher at the Merrimack Montessori School in Haverhill. Juliet is currently volunteering at Kennedy Day School of the Franciscan Children’s Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Brighton and doing online editing for KIVA, a nonprofit micro-financing group. She lives in Haverhill with her husband Frederick.

Jon Payson
Wellington Management Company, LLP (retired)


Jon graduated from Yale University in 1979 with a BA in Economics and Political Science. After eight years at a private investment firm in New York City, Jon joined Wellington Management Company, LLP in 1987, becoming a Senior Vice President and Partner in 1995. Jon served in a variety of management roles at Wellington, overseeing a global relationship management group and the firm's corporate operations. In addition, Jon was the President and Chair of the Board of the firm's national trust bank subsidiary during his tenure at Wellington. A former Marine Corps officer and Gulf War veteran, Jon is an honorary Trustee of the Catholic Center at Yale University, and is an airplane and helicopter pilot. Jon resides in Beverly.

Michael Prior
Atlantic Tele-Network, Inc.

Michael T. Prior is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic Tele-Network, Inc., a public telecommunications company headquartered in Beverly, MA, with operations in rural areas of the United States and in the Caribbean. Michael joined ATN in 2003 as their Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, and has served as President and CEO since late 2005. He serves on the Board of Directors and is currently Vice Chairman of the Rural Cellular Association. Michael received a B.A. degree from Vassar College and a J.D. degree Summa Cum Laude from Brooklyn Law School. Michael lives in Hamilton.

William Rogers
Choate, Hall & Stewart (of counsel)

Will Rogers was formerly a partner of and is now Of Counsel to the Boston law firm of Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP. Will’s' practice was concentrated on corporate finance and included complex public and private financing transactions, including project finance, mergers and acquisitions, and a variety of restructuring projects for the energy and telecommunications industries. His practice also involved substantial experience with all phases of business planning and organization for closely and publicly-held high technology companies. In addition, he was for many years a Visiting Teacher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Management. He received an A.B. from Harvard College, served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Marine Corps and received his LL.B. from Columbia University School of Law. Will, a resident of Ipswich, is active in his community and serves as ECCF's chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Pauline Sheedy
U.S. Trust Bank of America

Paula is a Senior Vice President at U.S. Trust Bank of America.  Prior to that, she was a Managing Director at Barclay's Wealth Management. Paula has also served as a Senior Portfolio Manager in the Wealth Management Division of US Trust managing $1.2 billion for high net worth individuals, corporate executives, business owners and entrepreneurs.  Paula started her career at The Boston Company in 1977.  She held various positions with the company, leaving in 1988 as a Vice President.  She joined State Street Bank and Trust Company in 1988.  In 2003, United States Trust Company acquired the Personal Asset Management Division from State Street.  Paula graduated Magna Cum Laude from Boston College in 1983 with a BS in Business Administration and With Distinction from Babson College in 1990 with a Master of Business Administration. She lives in Gloucester.

Richard Sumberg
The Financial Advisors


Dick Sumberg is CEO of The Financial Advisors, LLC., a comprehensive Financial Planning and Investment Firm he founded in 1992. Dick received a BSBA from Boston College and an MBA from Suffolk University. He continues to be very active in the community and is currently or has been involved with the Merrimack Valley Estate Planning Council, Yankee Clipper Council, Boy Scouts of America, Family Service Inc., Malden Catholic High School, and 30B Melrose St. Habitat House Project. Dick is a resident of Andover.
