Betty Beland Greater Lawrence Summer Fund
ECCF’s unique collaborative fund that provides summer fun and hope for at-risk youth in the Greater Lawrence area.
In honor of the founder of the Greater Lawrence Summer Fund, ECCF is pleased to announce the renaming of the Fund to the Betty Beland Greater Lawrence Summer Fund.
Modeled after the Associated Grant Makers’ Summer Fund in Boston, GLSF was founded in 1990 by Betty Beland, former administrator of the Stevens Foundations and founding board member of ECCF. ECCF assumed the administration of GLSF in 2001.
The goal of GLSF is to significantly impact out-of-school time for youth in Greater Lawrence by:
- Encouraging significant support for safe, quality programs that enhance positive social, academic and emotional abilities.
- Discouraging unhealthy youth behaviors by providing safe, summer alternatives.
- Reducing summer learning loss, which has been shown to widen the achievement gap between low-income youth and their more affluent peers.
To apply for a grant, please see GLSF Grant Guidelines.
Since 2001, GLSF has contributed more than $3 million to summer programs in the Greater Lawrence area. In 2011 alone, GLSF supported programs that benefited an estimated 19,000 youths ages 3 to 22. View the 2011 GLSF Report.
